Sue Cortese is textile artist who lives in Holland, Michigan. As like any other artist her works starts as a blank canvas, but for her that means white fabric. She has been creating sewn compositions with her dyed fabric, and quilting them since 1995. The combination of layers of pattern as well as the texture that quilting stitches add to the work, keep her exploring. From start to finish, her work is incorporates the many techniques she has learned over the years: dyeing and printing her own fabric, piecing and appliqué, machine and hand quilting, and various finishes. Her work has been displayed in quilt shows and art museum around the country. She teaches various dyeing and quilting techniques. Sue is also a Certified Quilt Judge through NACQJ and a Regional Representative for SAQA.
In her exploration of techniques, Sue has started working in paper and mixed media collage. Dyeing, painting and printing a variety of papers as well as fabrics.
